This course will review evidence supporting the inclusion of resistance training in endurance athletes. These patients are seen in outpatient clinical settings, and require professional advice to return to previous level of function. 1CCU

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Name 1 Factor Impacting Endurance Performance
2. Name 1 Adaptations to Endurance training
3. Identify 2 psychological factors impacting resistance training in Endurance Athletes
4. Identify 2 positive effects of Endurance Performance in the presence of Resistance Training for Endurance Athletes

Speaker(s)
Dr. Jason Winchester joined UIW School of Physical Therapy in June 2014. He did his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology with a minor in Biomechanics at Louisiana State University. He is active in multiple professional organizations, to include the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He is on the Editorial Review Board for multiple scientific journals, to include Medicine and Science in Sport and Exercise, the Journal of Applied Biomechanics, and the European Journal of Applied Physiology. Dr. Winchester is a Senior Associate Editor for the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and has served on both the Exam Development Committee and the Job Task Analysis Task Force for the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) Certification. He has been featured, both in the form of interview and in having his research highlighted, in popular media outlets such as Women's Health, Men's Journal, Muscle and Fitness Online, Bicycling Magazine, and the Globe and Mail Newspaper. Dr. Winchester has been heavily involved in the mentoring of student scholarship and has established several national and international collaborations in places such as Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, and Poland. He has worked in a variety of university settings prior to coming to UIW, and also has several years of experience in private settings. Here at UIW, Dr. Winchester teaches primarily in the Foundational Sciences thread for Year 1 of the Entry Level DPT program, but also helps out in other classes such as Patient Client Management, Professional Topics, and in the Capstone Scholarly Project for both the Pre and Post-Professional DPT program.
