Peripheral Nerve Sensitization: The "Missing Link" in the Treatment of Ortho, Sports and Industrial Medicine Patients…Lower Quarter (HOTD)
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor
900 College Street
Belton, TX 76513
Tuesday, October 08, 2019, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM CDT
Category: District Meetings

Neuropathic pain syndromes may be responsible for the failure of rehabilitation in up to 17% of orthopedic patients. This diagnosis is often called the "missing link" in evaluation and rehabilitation protocols, and can directly cause tissue inflammation, fascial adhesion, and can prevent patient from initiating proper patterning and functional restoration. Participants in this course will learn six sensitive and specific test to rule in or out these syndromes during an evaluation. 2CCUs

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
●Develop a better understanding of the current evidence and research into neuropathic pain syndromes.
●Gain an understanding of the complexity and far reaching consequences peripheral nerve irritability can have on musculoskeletal tissues and function.
●Demonstrate the ability to rule in and rule out neuropathic pain as the causation of patient’s pain, pattern losses, and functional disability.
●Identify standard orthopedic maladies of the lower quarter that can have their origins in neurogenic inflammation.
●Demonstrate the skills and knowledge base to integrate both the evaluation skills and the treatment protocols into their normal protocols.
●Successfully apply manual techniques in specific positions and devise specific home programs to enhance the progression of their patients.
●Identify measurable outcomes of treatment of peripheral nerve sensitization that reflect the value of these interventions when considering documentation for compensation based upon value- based care.
