Communication is the vehicle by which patient care, reimbursement and governmental affairs travel.  Maximizing quality communication is important for effective and efficient physical therapy practice. 1CCU

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Identify stakeholders related to physical therapy practice
2. Identify components of successful communication
3. Indicate areas of improvement within communication scenarios
4. Apply successful communication practices next business day

Speaker(s)
Dr. Peyton Sykes graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2009. In 2014, he earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in Austin, Texas, delivering the commencement speech at his graduation. In 2017, he began his journey in academia as a contributing faculty member at USAHS and became a full-time Core Faculty Instructor for the Flex DPT Program in April of 2018. He leads a variety of courses with an orthopedic emphasis, including Soft Tissue Interventions, Biomechanics, and Spinal Evaluation and Treatment. His clinical career has been focused primarily in the Austin, Texas community as an outpatient orthopedic clinician, although, he also spent 2017 and early 2018 gaining experience as a travel physical therapist in various acute care hospitals within the state. He earned his Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists (ABPTS) in June of 2018. In October of 2018, he opened his own mobile orthopedic practice, Empower Physiotherapy. In early 2019, he became intimately involved in the legislative efforts for direct patient access to physical therapy. Through these efforts he began an online movement called Physical Therapy By Choice aimed at informing and unifying both physical therapists and the public in direct access efforts. In August of 2019, Peyton began his pursuit of a Doctor of Education at Baylor University with an emphasis in Learning Theory and Organizational Change. His goals include creating opportunities for student-led advocacy, as well as pursuing research and educational implementation of the science of pain and therapeutic alliance. Peyton also enjoys creating and experiencing live music, traveling, outdoor activities, and physical fitness.
