Advanced Differential Reasoning for Physical Therapists
Saturday, December 05, 2020, 8:00 AM to Sunday, December 06, 2020, 1:30 PM CDT
Category: TPTA Events

 The course is designed to help physical therapists develop consistent systematic clinical reasoning processes to differentially diagnose disorders within the scope of practice of a physical therapist and to recognize disorders requiring medical referral. 15CCUs (includes pre-conference reading materials)

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Utilize presented strategies from the course to improve your ability to safely function as a direct access practitioner;
2. Provide patient-centered physical therapy care using advanced clinical reasoning strategies to facilitate more accurate diagnoses and screening;
3. Develop and implement consistent clinical processes to assist in screening for systemic disease and other non-musculoskeletal problems through the use of population tailored health screening forms, hypothesis tailored systems review and physical therapy examinations, and evidence-based screening strategies;
4. Identify the physical therapy patient who requires care not within the scope of physical therapist practice on a timely basis;
5. Select appropriate diagnostic tests according to the principles of evidence-based diagnosis;
6. Recognize the signs, symptoms, and rehabilitation implications of a broad spectrum of non-musculoskeletal disorders;
7. Utilize response to physical therapist intervention or changes from the established baseline as a form of ongoing active screening to help determine the patient client who is appropriate for continued care and those who require medical referral;
8. Serve as a mentor for physical therapy students and interns on diagnosis and medical screening according to the principles of evidence-based practice.
