We all know the sayin g, “You Are What You Eat.” But, do we ever think about our patients with th at in mind? That what they eat could be influencing their overall health an d even their rehab outcomes. Because in reality nutritional intake does aff ect the human body in how it recovers, ages, and becomes at risk of develop ing chronic diseases. With that said, nutrition should be considered as a p rincipal component to patient care and integrated when necessary and approp riate. This course will provide you as a practitioner with the resources an d skills to appropriately implement nutritional concepts into patient care, including many important factors along the way, such as determining nutrit ional needs, navigating professional scopes of practice, and using a patien t’s readiness to change to provide the right kind of evidence-informed nutr ition education at the right time. 1.5 CCUs p>
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Recall informati
on on nutritional science, nutritional determinants, and evidence-based nut
ritional research;
2. Identify the role that nutrition plays in physic
al therapy patient/client care and appreciate the effects that it can have;
3. Utilize nutritional screening tools to determine the existence of
nutritional needs and if there is a need for referral and/or interprofessio
nal collaboration;
4. Implement evidence-informed nutritional educatio
n and behavioral change techniques.
