This course is designed for physical therapists, therapist assistants as well as PT and PTA students to provide information to improve power clean mechanics in order to reduce risk of injury with sport activities. This course will break down the movements required for a proper power clean as well as outline biomechanical deficits at different joints and then discuss exercises to improve mobility and strength in order to improve technique and minimize risk of injury for athletes and recreational lifters2.5CCUs 

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

1.Be able to identify what proper form would look like for a squat, deadlift as well as power clean;
2.Participants will be able to identify common compensations as well as break down in technique to allow for specific treatments for improved mechanics;
3.The course will review anatomy at specific joints in how it relates to movement patterns;
4.Participants will gain knowledge for how specific deficits in joint mobility, muscular imbalances/hypertonicity and weakness effect power clean technique and performance;
5.Individuals taking the course will review exercises to help improve deficits at different joints to allow for improved mechanics;
6.Attendees will be able to perform proper lifting technique in order to allow for improved education and biomechanics adjustments for their patients.

Speaker(s)
Sara Reilly is a Doctor of Physical Therapy at DHR Orthopedic Sports Therapy Institute. She is board certified in orthopedics (OCS). Both her Masters in Exercise Physiology and doctorate of Physical Therapy were achieved at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. During her masters she worked in The Human Performance Lab conducting supplement, training techniques, and nutritional studies to help improve performance athletes. She currently has 11 publications in the human performance and Supplement and sport nutrition fields, as well as given 6 presentations at National and International conferences. Currently she the Lead Sports Physical therapist at OSTI and specializes in orthopedic therapy with subspecialty in sport rehabilitation.

Irving Alday is a duo licensed and board-certified Doctor of Physical Therapy and Athletic Trainer. He received his bachelor’s in athletic training from the University of Texas in Austin and received his Doctor of Physical Therapy at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. During his doctorate program he provided sports medicine coverage for multiple sports at Ball High School in Galveston and the junior hockey club team Houston Wild ages 10-18 years old. He also worked as a student research assistant for the Cadaver-Oriented Anatomy Online Course Project through the UTMB Department of Physical Therapy. Currently he is a Physical Therapist under the sports team at DHR Orthopedic Sports Therapy Institute (OSTI) developing his career in specializing in both orthopedic and sports therapy rehabilitation.

Armando Blancas is a Physical Therapist Assistant and Therapy Supervisor at Orthopedic Sports Therapy Institute. Graduated from South Texas College in 2007 and has 15 years of experience in orthopedics while mainly working with athletes from middle school level to professional level. Expert in treating ACL reconstruction after treating more than 1,000 patients in the last 15 years. Currently in progress of becoming an Exos Performance Specialist.

9:00: Breakout for Lifting.
9:25 Breakdown of Pull, Common Compensations, and Exercises to improve.
9:45: Breakdown of Pull.
10:05: Breakdown of Punch, Common Compensations, and Exercises to improve.
10:25: Breakdown of Punch and Combing movement

Additional Information and Registration
CCUs are only issued to PTs and PTAs. In order to receive credit, you must be present for the full course. After the course complete the course evaluation that will be emailed to you to the email used for registering, after attendance is verified. Additional instructions will be provided. You must sign in AND out at the time of the course. Credit will not be issued if you are not present for the full course, sign-in AND out are not completed, and the evaluation is not received by the deadline.
