Advances in critical care medicine have resulted in a growing population of survivors of critical illness. Many survivors experience impairment in cognition, mental health, and physical function. Post intensive care syndrome (PICS) was established as a new syndrome encompassing new or worsening impairments in physical, cognitive or mental health status that arise after critical illness and persist beyond acute care hospitalization. Physical therapy is well accepted to provide early rehabilitation for patients in ICU and is now considered an integral component of the multidisciplinary care of these patients. PICS is frequently associated with the inability to return to work and decreased quality of life due to muscle weakness. The content of this lecture will help physical therapists practicing along the continuum of care understand the challenges patients face when surviving a critical illness. 1CCU At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to: Speaker(s) Schedule Fees Additional Locations Cancellation Policy Register here.
